Raised Roots Therapeutic Gardening and Horticulture
What we feed ourselves and those we love should be as high a priority to us as breathing, but year after year American’s become more disconnected with the foods they eat. While most might attribute that to our busier than ever lifestyles, the truth is much simpler…we just don’t know how, or where to start to make things better.
I’ve had gardens since we were married 25 years ago, and besides working with animals and people, it is one of my favorite stress relieving activities. Several years ago I was writing some new program lesson proposals that including growing a garden for the horses and all the valuable life skills and opportunities for improved health and wellness that it entailed. Little did I know then that it would lead to years of study in therapeutic horticulture and a whole lot of vegetables and herbs being grown here on our farm!
In 2018 I took all this a step further and joined the Kitchen Garden Coach Society. The society was founded by Rooted Garden owner Nicole Burke. We are garden lovers who took our passion for growing and created thriving businesses designed to get people back into the garden growing healthy, fresh and delicious foods.
While growing vegetables and herbs in a raised bed system can be beneficial to everyone, I’ve decided to go a step further, and offer insight and education for my readers so they can learn how to incorporate growing food and plants into a therapeutic wellness plan for those living with illnesses or disabilities that might require adaptation. These are tips and techniques that can be used and enjoyed by anyone, and will help make growing food, and enjoying the benefits of healthy eating widely accessible to all who can benefit.
